Ilya Andreyev - Principal
Ilya began his dancing career when he entered the Moiseyev Dance academy on a Scholarship at the age of 13yrs. Training predominantly in traditional world folk dance, Ilya also obtained professional qualifications in Classical ballet, jazz, and all dance disciplines.
Upon graduation from the academy, at the age of 18years, Ilya was one of only a few to be employed as a professional performer with the 'Moiseyev Dance Company' in Moscow, Russia. He went on to perform as a both a soloist and troupe member on world tours, which saw him performing to World leaders and Royalty on some of the worlds most famous stages.
In 1996, Ilya departed Russia to join the Irish dance phenomenon 'Riverdance The Show.', touring internationally as part of the 'Liffey Company', Ilya took on the role as Dance captain for the 'Moscow Folk Ballet Company' a role which involved choreography changes, performing, leading rehearsals for new and existing company members and teaching ‘port de bras’ classes to the Irish principal dancers.
Whilst performing in Auckland, New Zealand public demand led to Ilya producing, choreographing and performing in his own 'Moscow Folk Ballet Company' show to a sell out audience.
Since retiring from performing Ilya has earned a reputation as one of the regions most successful and respected teachers. Working with students of all ages and abilities he has worked at a number of establishments across the N.E including Newcastle College, Northumbria University, Dance City, British Gymnastics Academy as well as a number of private dance schools. He has also led workshops across the UK and held the position of ballet master for North-East based professional company 'BalletLorent'.
Ilya's professional background and soviet training gives him a unique style of teaching methods and anyone who has ever been taught by him will agree that the results which ensue are worth the effort.
It is Ilya's aspiration as a teacher to enable local talent to have the opportunities he did, not only to be taught by the best but to be able to do it on your doorstep.
Leigh Henderson - Head of Dance
trained at the Northern Ballet, Manchester Leigh went on to perform as a Soloist for the Northern Ballet Company in such productions as Giselle, Sleeping Beauty. She also took leading roles for the Haymarket Theatre Company and performed throughout Europe.
Jo Roxborough - Assistant Head of Dance
began her ballet training at the age of seven and at 16yrs old went on to train in contemporary dance at Newcastle College. Upon graduating she went on to work around the world as a professional vocalist, dancer and presenter. Working alongside leading proffessional choreographers and voice coaches and her enthusiam and ability saw her rapidly progress into management roles, Since returning to the UK she has taught contemporary in school, volenteered choreography with local Gang Shows.
Vivien Wood
choreographer, Performer, rehearsal director in Physical theatre and contemporary dance. Viv did her own training at Royal Ballet School, London coached by Sir Frederick Ashton, Dame Alicia Markova and Svetlana Beriosova. She previously taught at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and to date still collaborates and mentors for Dance companies such as Wayne MacGregor, Phoenix Dance Company, Rambert Dance Company, Augsburg Ballet Company and Carte Blanche.
Damien Robson
Damian passion for the dramatic arts began as a child, after training as professional her went on to spend many happy years working in theatre, film, television and radio drama, finding his talents were increasingly utilised in helping his fellow performers with confidence and performance issues, and changed direction. He gained his BA in the Creative Arts and went on to gain his Post Graduate Certificate in Education. He is a member of the professional teaching body, Institute for Learning. He is passionate about developing confidence in his students.
Damian teaches drama, voice and speech, acting techniques, drama and theatre studies.
He will be introducing London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exams for students, this world recognised school of voice and speech has examinations in vocal awareness and voice production. Leading to its various merits of Bronze, Silver and Gold, these examinations are designed to increase confidence and presentation skills for individuals or groups and carries with it UCAS accreditation and points. He can is keen to extend this service for all age groups and abilities.
Mike Denman
trained at the Northern Ballet school, and has gone on to take leading roles in some of the West End's leading shows, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Saturday Night Fever to name but a few. Mike has also taught at a number of the UK’s leading Dance academies including London Studios.
